Consider the Lobster
Written by David Foster Wallace, Consider the Lobster provides an in-depth analysis of perhaps Maine’s largest tourism attraction. Wallace begins by describing what one might see, hear, and smell at the Maine Lobster Festival and recreates his own personal experience at the event. Through his detailed explanation of the festival, the author establishes how the MLF (Maine Lobster Festival) differs and compares to large touristic events of other genres. Using his initial narration of the event as a segway, Wallace then delves into the morality associated with the celebration of boiling absurd amounts of live sea creatures. He professionally stays very objective about the issue and presents both facts and opinions from various sources. These sources come from both personal and academic research, ultimately giving his audience the most complete story. The text was written eloquently and provided me with an excellent example as to how I should model my own writing.
