Shitty First Drafts
Aimed primarily at young writers, Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts” does an exceptional job at encouraging the talented youth. Though Lamott is an experienced, established writer, she still manages to connect to her audience by reassuring them that she too is never truly satisfied with her work at first. Her connection to the readers allows her to inspire up and coming authors, encouraging them to continue creating and revising. What Lamott may not have realized, is that her advice is extremely valuable within all other aspects of life. In the case of a young basketball player relentlessly trying to nail their three pointers, just picking up the ball and shooting can spark growth. Sure, it might very well take until the 100th shot for a basket to be made but the student would not reach that point without the previous 99. Applicable to any situation, Anne Lamott’s advice can encourage and inspire any person who comes across it.
